What is the thread count (TC)?

For many years, thread count has been a common way of talking about the quality of sheets. Technically, the thread count means the number of threads woven together in a square inch. As a measurement, this number has influenced people to think that the more threads there are in a square inch means higher quality. However, this simple number does not recognize the quality of the thread itself, whether it is twisted or the weaving technique to make the fabric. In the end, the true quality can be different between sheets with the same thread count with different quality yarn and weave technique OR ones with a higher thread count, but with lower quality yarns etc.
